Using techniques from dynamical systems theory to understand and control natural and technological systems. Application areas include neuroscience (developing algorithms for controlling neurons, inspired by deep brain stimulation of patients with Parkinsonís Disease), turbulence (understanding the transition to and nature of shear flow turbulence), MEMS devices (modeling devices for sensing and other applications), fish schooling (understanding how collective behavior emerges from local interactions), and collective decision making.
