Examples of the methods leveraged by the proposed work. a) Traditional computer-based visual search task requiring subjects to search for a prespecified colored target (e.g., green circle) and respond with a key press. b) Realistic search task, requiring subjects to search for the target object (e.g., green cup) and reach out to grasp it. c) Participant engaging in a real-world task (free throw shooting) under variable task demands while their brain activity is recorded. d) Participant in the lab performing a computer-based attention task during exercise while brain activity and eye position are monitored continuously. e/f) Participant outside engaged in real-world search task while riding a bike in a natural environment.
The present understanding of cognitive priority control is limited. Here, we take a fundamentally different approach by investigating brain function and cognition outside the lab, in the wild.
There are three objectives for this project: 1) To develop protocols that bridge the gap between studying cognitive priority control in the lab and in the wild. 2) To test specific hypotheses about cognitive priority control in the wild. 3) To investigate cognitive priority control in daily activities and during more extreme activities in the wild.
