Co-Designing Silicon-Cell Circuits for Advanced Diagnostics and Detection

In this project we will combine the power of synthetic biology to perform molecular scale recognition and reactions with the programmability and versatility of CMOS processing and integration to enable new types of sensing and diagnostic systems.We will create a proof-of-concept miniaturized instrument that classifies the dynamic signature of a complex biological sample through a sequence of sense-classify-reprogram iterations demonstrating successful transduction of quantities between silicon and cells.The interface between the two domains will be established via fluorescence excitation/sensing, electro-chemical sensing, and thermal control, all integrated in advanced CMOS technologies.
