Synthesizing and Analyzing the Twitter Genome

A network of users and a model of their interaction behavior with information content (genome). Two flows, red and green, corresponding to different content are shown passing through the central node in the network. Our current model measures the latency of each user’s interaction with different kinds of content. This model is shown as a vector on each node.
We are developing a topic genotype framework to quantify the transmission of ideas and opinions in social networks such as Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. This genotype characterizes the behavior of a user over different topics, and is computed using empirical data. Modeling through genotypes will allow us to better understand the relationship between a network’s follower or friendship structure and the rate and depth at which new ideas will propagate. We will also use our empirical findings to develop predictive models for the dynamics and evolution of ideas on networks, and of the network structure emergence itself.
